What's Ahead?
A high school diploma is no longer the ticket to a good-paying job.  Today's education should span at least 14 years:   high school plus 2 years at a technical school or college.
Our local job market in Southwest Louisiana doesn't demand a great number of four-year college graduates.  It does, however, demand employees who can solve technical problems and share ideas with others.  STEPS offers and opportunity to train as one of these employees.

What Are the Requirements?
1.   Graduating Senior
2.  Maximum of 2 core courses
3.  Score 10 on the TABE test
4.  Minimum of 17 credits earned

What is TECH PREP?
TECH PREP is a nationwide program aimed at providing a sound preparation for students in a changing technological world.  Southwest Louisiana seniors who have completed all core courses, except Senior English and 1 science or 1 math, can begin a specific program of study in their chosen skill area at Sowela at the same time they finish high school.

How Much Does It COST?
This is the best part of the STEPS program: it is TUITION FREE for the senior year.

What About Job Placement?
Many employers contact Louisiana Technical College, Sowela Campus looking for students to fill their positions.  There is an approximate 96% placement rate for successful students.
